After spending more than fifteen years working inside complex organizations, I became fascinated by a question that continues to shape my work today:
Why do talented people so often struggle inside organizations that genuinely want to succeed?
The answer, in my experience, is rarely a lack of intelligence, effort, or ambition.
More often, organizations struggle because leadership, culture, structure, and strategy become misaligned. Good people find themselves operating within systems that create confusion instead of clarity, frustration instead of ownership, and activity instead of progress.
That observation eventually became the foundation for Ascend Leadership Collective.
I founded Ascend because I believe healthy organizations do not happen by accident. They are intentionally designed. Leadership matters, but leadership alone is not enough. Sustainable success requires alignment between people, culture, strategy, and the systems that support them.
Throughout my career, I have led large-scale organizational initiatives, developed operating models, built strategic partnerships, and designed programs intended to create meaningful and lasting impact. Today, I serve as the Director of Experiential Education at Miami University, where I lead institution-wide initiatives focused on workforce readiness, experiential learning, and organizational effectiveness.
In addition to my work in higher education, I have partnered with organizations across multiple industries to address leadership challenges, organizational growth, culture transformation, and strategy execution. While industries differ, the underlying challenges are often remarkably similar. Organizations succeed when leaders create environments characterized by trust, ownership, accountability, adaptability, and purpose.
My work is guided by a simple belief: most employees are capable of far more than the systems around them allow.
When organizations intentionally design those systems, people thrive, teams perform, and strategy becomes reality.
That is the work Ascend exists to do.
